We live next to the ocean, work over the ocean and make our living from what the ocean provides...

Using the whole fish

So, as well as using sustainable fish. we strive to utilise every part of the fish that we process. The fillets go into our award winning fish and chips. The bones and heads get smoked or sold as fresh. The guts and skins are composted for use in gardening.

Worm farming 101

Our salad waste is taken away daily, to feed the myriad of small chicken holdings that dot the Far North. My personal favourite is potato peelings from making our real potato fritters and chowder soup. We use the peelings to feed our collection of five worm farms. Combined with used coffee grounds from our espresso machine, egg shells and cardboard makes for a real worm feast.

Our crispy's (the tiny bits of fried batter from the fryer) are used by the drum load at a local pig farm to fatten up his porkers .

Bio diesel

The used premium shortening that we fry in is collected in drums to be used as a component in bio fuel.

Sugarcane not fossil fuels

We have converted all of our plastic chilled food containers that were previously made from fossil fuel oil into containers manufactured from sugar cane that has a neutral carbon foot print. These fantastic bio degradable food containers cost  twice as much as a similar product made from fossil fuel oil but have that advantage of breaking down within three months when exposed to heat and moisture.

Our drinking straws and cutlery are made from sustainable paper and wood so we no longer have to worry if our cutlery or straws accidentally get discarded into the sea as it will break down within three months when exposed to heat and moisture.

Paper not plastic

We only supply kraft paper bags to our customers and have converted all of our hot food containers made from polystyrene into containers made from kraft cardboard. Even our takeaway coffee cups are made oil free from renewable resources and lids from bio plastic.

Reusable and practical

Our newest project is to introduce reusable stainless steel serving baskets to also reduce our newsprint usage. They look great and are great to eat from. This is a great example of sustainability, practicality and aesthetic becoming great mates and having a beer together!

Love your work while you love your environment.
